Required Events

• FORMAL WEAR: All contestants will appear before a panel of judges in a gown or dress of choice. All ages may wear a short or floor length dress as long as it is age appropriate. Contestants may model as they wish with a maximum of 90 seconds on stage. Showcase your confidence & presence!

• AUTUMN WEAR: All contestants will appear before a panel of judges in a Autumn Wear Outfit of Choice. Model your favorite everyday outfit you would wear in the fall. Think pumpkin patch, date night, family photos. Outfit may be custom or off-the-rack (no bathing suits, no midriff, no jeans, no short shorts). Hand props are welcome. Showcase your modeling ability and modern style!

Optional Showcase

Optional contests give contestants the opportunity to receive even more awards and to qualify for Supreme and Overall Titles! You must compete in at least TWO Optional events to qualify for Supreme and Overall Titles. Optionals are $30 per entry. Awarded per age division. If you compete in BOTH Miss Appalachian Mountains & StarJewel Autumn Showcase, you only pay once and are entered in the optional(s) you select for both events*! Add optionals for more chances at the higher titles! High scoring optionals can replace low scoring required events for a better chance at the Overall titles! You may enter each optional several times.

• ​PHOTOGENIC: Bring 1 professional headshot style photo sized 8x10 on pageant day per entry (no frames; clear photo sleeve preferred and will be for sale on pageant day). Please write contestant name & age on back before checking in on pageant day.  You may enter unlimited times.

• PRINT MODEL: Bring 1 photo sized 8x10 that is 3/4 body or full body on pageant day per entry (no frames; clear photo sleeve preferred and will be for sale on pageant day). We are looking for pictures that could be seen in a magazine. Please write contestant name & age on back before checking in on pageant day.  You may enter unlimited times.

• RUNWAY: Let your personality shine as you model your fun, high fashion style! Get creative and show off your inner fashionista. No midriffs or excessively revealing necklines/hemlines.

• INTRODUCTION: Contestants will have 30 seconds to introduce themselves on stage. Each contestant should include their name, hometown, and something interesting about themselves. Introductions will be performed in a business or church dress. Fashionable pant suits are also acceptable.

• ON-STAGE INTERVIEW: The perfect opportunity to practice your interview skills! Interview style will be on-stage. Contestants will be asked 2 questions. Questions will be all about the contestant’s favorite things, goals, personality, dreams, aspirations, etc.! No political, controversial, or religious topics will be asked by the judges. Don’t worry so much about “what” will be asked; instead, use this opportunity to get to share about who you are and develop your skills!

Side Awards

Side Awards are a series of "best of" mini-optionals that are judged during the required events. These are included in the entry fee and awarded per age division.
